Job Description
The Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher provides specialized physical education instruction to students with disabilities, helping them develop the motor, physical, and functional skills necessary to participate as independently as possible. This role assesses individual student needs and designs meaningful, goal-oriented programs aligned with IEP objectives, functional abilities, and motivation levels. The APE Teacher collaborates closely with multidisciplinary team members, including speech, occupational, physical, vision, and orientation and mobility specialists, to support student success. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments, adapting activities and equipment, providing consultation and training to educators and staff, and implementing safe, individualized physical education programs that promote independence, participation, and overall student development.
