Trainee Track Machine Operator

Overview

As a Trainee Track Machine Operator, you will join our Infrastructure Operations team and help maintain the rail network that connects the country. Based in Christchurch, this role involves continuous travel across the rail network on the South Island. You will work as part of a Track Machine Gang, learning how to safely operate and maintain specialised track machines that help keep our railway running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate track machines safely and efficiently under supervision
• Support the servicing and repair of track machines alongside experienced team members
• Assist with track maintenance work while meeting KiwiRail quality, safety, and engineering standards
• Operate hi-rail vehicles on track as part of daily operations
• Contribute to toolbox meetings and team decisions
